Unwinding the Beauty of Ouray:
Imagine this: breathtaking vistas of the San Juan Mountains unfolding before you, the charming town of Ouray nestled like a gem below, and a trail that weaves its way through lush forests, vibrant meadows, and even some challenging, yet rewarding, rocky scrambles. Sounds like a dream, right? Well, the Perimeter Loop Trail makes this dream a reality. With every bend, you'll find yourself saying "wow," soaking in memories that will last a lifetime.
A Hike for All (with a Little Effort):
Don't be intimidated if you're not an experienced mountaineer. While the Perimeter Loop does have some moderate inclines, it's well-maintained and accessible to hikers of all levels. Remember, though, those stunning mountain views come with some legwork! Think of it as an investment in breathtaking panoramas and a sense of accomplishment. Other than the River Walk Trail that borders our resort, the Perimeter Loop Trail is the next easiest hike in Ouray.
Nature's Wonders Await:
The Perimeter Loop isn't just about the destination; it's about the journey itself. As you hike, keep your eyes peeled for cascading waterfalls during the spring runoff; their roar can be pretty intense. Cross quaint bridges over the Uncompahgre River, Oak Creek, and Canyon Creek. And don't forget to stop and check out the overlooks! They're picture-perfect spots to soak in the beauty of Ouray and capture memories that will stay with you long after your trip. If you really feel adventurous, drop down into Box Canyon and see the waterfalls from below. You cross the bridge above during the routed hike.
Tips for a Smooth Adventure:
Remember, the Perimeter Loop is a popular trail, so you're likely to encounter fellow hikers. Dress in layers, as mountain weather can be unpredictable. Pack plenty of water and snacks to keep your energy levels up, and most importantly, wear sturdy shoes with good traction, especially on the rocky sections. Yak Tracks are something to consider in the spring months, as you may encounter brief patches of snow or ice. Hiking poles are a plus.
